Building Façade Improvement Grant Program
What - The Façade Improvement Grant Program provides matching grant funds up to a maximum grant award on a single façade project of $5,000. Facades wider than fifty feet or taller than two stories may be eligible for larger sums not to exceed $15,000 if determined to be significant and appropriate in the sole opinion of the Downtown Façade Design Committee. Applications for projects must be reviewed and approved by the Downtown Façade Design Committee prior to any construction.
Who - Downtown property owners and tenants, specifically those who own historically significant buildings, are eligible to apply for grant funds. Applicants must provide proof of ownership. If the Applicant is not the owner, a letter of permission from the property owner along with proof of the owner's legitimate ownership interest in the property, must be provided.
Why - The Facade Improvement Grant Program was created to encourage private investment as well as promote good design that will serve as quality examples and to preserve the architectural character that is significant for downtown Lansing.
